Did Case make a dogleg jack with a oval shield?

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Did Case make a dogleg jack with a oval shield?

Post by FRJ »

By any chance did Case make this knife? 1905 - 1914 ......

Ebony covers with an oval shield.

Last line is: & SONS .........

2 15/16" closed. Maybe it's supposed to be 3"? A nice responsive little knife.

Thanks for looking and for any information you can offer.

As far as I am aware the only Case Knife approaching that size in a dogleg was the 20 peanut pattern which was made during the W R Case & Sons era 1905-14 in both the regular 20 peanut regular and also in a dogleg jack which is of course much more rare. Both versions however only 2 3/4" closed. The fact that your knife has the oval shield wouldn't concern me at all as Case did have several patterns in the W R era that had oval black shields on some models. Since your knife has the serrated pulls it identifies with a Case contract knife which might explain the small difference in length as well. Done of this will stand up in court it is only an observation. I do have one of the W R Case & Sons peanuts that is a dogleg jack if you would like for me to post a picture.

Thank you for your post, Tom.
I would love to see your nice W R Case & Sons dogleg jack to see how the two knives compare.
My knife has been silently haunting me for some time. I've always been curious about it.
So far you have been nudging me towards Case. That would be nice.

Here is mine. It is a W R Case & Sons and also has the 6220 pattern number stamped. Mine has Winterbottom scales and a bar shield. It is 2 3/4" closed. As I said Case also made some W R Case & Sons peanuts on the regular frame as well. I like the dogleg style myself.
