1970's Case Copperhead - HOW MANY DOTS ARE THERE?
I just got this 6249 copperhead and couldn't be happier with it. But, I was just doing a little cleaning up before adding it to my collection, and noticed what I think looks a bit unusual with the dots. The seller advertised it as a 1977 3-dot, but I'm not sure. The last picture I have attached is probably the clearest view of the dots. I see 2 prominent dots under the "S" of "U.S.A.", maybe 2 "partial" dots under the "U" and the "A" of "U.S.A.", and probably the oddest part is the prominent dot over "CASE" between the "A" and the "S". Maybe I should just count the 2 prominent dots under "U.S.A." and ignore the other stuff. What do y'all think? Also, what do you think the color of the scales is called? (I think it has some resemblance to appaloosa.) Thanks for any input and ideas.

I'm going to say it's a 2-Dot 1978. Very nice knife by the way.

Mike my friend. Hope you are well!
I agree with Mike on the year. The bone color at the bolsters also is indicative of that time frame (late 70s and more specifically 78' as I recall).

The copperhead is one of my favorite case designs..... Ever. Copperhead designs are just fantastic. Is it stainless steel or CV?

I'm not expert, but it looks like a '78 to me as well. One of my favorite years for any knife. And it looks to be in quite nice condition. An excellent find!

I agree with what others have said based on the bone color and the tang stamp - 2 dot 78. For some reason you will see 70's knives with those "phantom" dots.
Also is the shield pinned? Not an exact way to tell, if it is pinned it could still be a 78, but if it is glued not pinned then definitely a 78.

Two dots.that color and jigging pattern lines up with that era too.they stopped pinning shields in 79, pinned shields are longer than unpinned shields, and that one appears to be pinned.i can always be wrong ,my opinion could always be wrong!
