Re: It's In The Mail
Had one of those "senior moments" again last evening.
I saw that the only 1/2 good Case dealer around here had Red Crimson Peachseed Jig Mini Trappers reduced to €54.95. Shipping is free for orders over €50 and I have wanted to try out the store for some time, just been waiting for them to mark down a nice looking Case knife. I have wanted one of the Red Crimson handeled knives for a long time and a Mini Trapper for my pockets too. This was my chance.
So I asked my Sweetheart for permission and then jumped on it as fast as I could.
Well, as it turns out, I actually jumped the gun on getting a Mini Trapper for my EDC rotation because it's not a Mini Trapper, it's a Trapper.
These Dang Trappers!
I have been here, done that & did it again.
I could cancel my order but I hate doing that kind of stuff so I'll just keep it. My budget is maxed out for the rest of the month so it'll be a long month now waiting to buy any more knives.
Oh well, things happen I guess.
Should look good in my showcase though.
I do love the colors of them.

Oh well, stuff happens. I might still EDC it anyways. Have a large yellow synthetic handled Trapper in my pocket today. They are nice knives, just a bit larger than my sweet spot area. The smaller Mini Trappers are actually the perfect size though.

Re: It's In The Mail
Well, I contemplated, thought about it, enticed myself and fell victim to my desires. I placed the 50th Anniversary 112 w/finger grooves in the cart at Buck...got through the preliminaries of paying...stopped, went back and looked again, and saw they had the regular 50th Anniversary 112 (without finger grooves) (BHQ was sold out of that one), so added that to the cart. I now have one of each on the way. Buck is only making 1000 of each of the 50th Anniversary 112's and I wanted a 'set'. If I didn't get them, I knew I'd regret it later on, once they're all sold out. The price was right for both of them, and I've sold several of my other high-end Buck knives, (Thanks Rick
), so I'm good.
Should have them sometime this week.

Nice one Tom! Most of my Trappers have plastic handles. Been meaning on getting a bone one soon. Trappers are better for heavier use, and a Mini Trapper is good as a general EDC.TPK wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 4:43 am Had one of those "senior moments" again last evening.![]()

At last count, I had three USA Schrade Trappers (2X 96OT fullsize, 1X 94OT "Mini), three Case (one beat up full size, one Earth Brown G-10, and then a Wharncliffe Mini Trapper--plus a fourth 1980s Slimline Trapper with a broken spey-blade backspring), one Camillus (though branded as Stanley), one Frost/Steel Warrior, and one Rough Ryder. More than even I thought I had, but still far fewer than Stockmen or TL-29 types.
I only recently started carrying one, as the 96OT have a handy pair of tweezers and a steel pick in the handle; and the Stanley/Camillus has a secondary serrated blade.

Re: It's In The Mail
I am finally able to take on a restoration of a Queen #45S serrated Big Chief that's been on the back burner for years. Beater #45s have ballooned in price to $50 regularly. The 1990s EO user I have cost $30 in 2016. I had traded for donor #45 from the '60s; but it became a regular EDC instead.
I have been waiting about two years or more for a seller in PA who bought most of the leftover parts to finally list #45 backsprings. I was afraid they didn't have any, and when the #45 diver blades they also had were in stock; I was afraid these would disappear when they finally listed the backsprings. Not so! Bought three of each, as the seller offered quantity discounts.
I HOPE these have been hardened. I can see they've not been cleaned or polished, and are still black.
And some #49D (diver) hawkbill blades. Figure these will be better for heavy cutting, and not accidentally cutting stuff I don't want to. As close to a sheepsfoot as you can get in the #45 frame.
I have emailed the seller asking if he had any #45 frames. Hoping he does, so I can make a pair of #45 diver's knives (one EDC, one spare) from these parts.
Total cost for all these parts--$23. Less than half the cost of a well-used Big Chief these days .
Now I just need some pin stock. The #45 has just three parts and the one pin holding it all together is the pivot, so it should'nt be rocket science to fix. Cut pin head off, punch pin out, remove blade and remnants of spring; insert new spring, reinstall blade, compress spring, insert new pin and peen.

Re: It's In The Mail
Schrade Walden 204 off Etsy. Looks to have never been used. At $20, hardly more expensive than the rough work knife condition one I've had for a few years.
Seller had a lot of photos, so here's the listing page: Also, I don't want to advertise, but quite a few of their listings are under-priced.
https://www.etsy.com/listing/1190846708 ... ng_details
This one is replacing the beater in my Schrade roll. I got tired of my Delrin Camillus electricians, so I went to the Cocobolo 204S. It is really weird that work knives quite often came with wood handles when things like rosewood, ebony, or cocobolo are now premium due to their endangered status; and basically, every workingman's pattern like the TL-29, hawkbill, and rope knife all usually come in Delrin these days as the base handle.

I just picked up a nice 4" single blade Robi Klaas Kissing Crane Solingen with a long pull and a "Redbone Hound" etch. It was described as "like new". Been waiting 9 days for the auction time to come to an end. And..., I got it!
Really stoked about this one!
