Pricey Muskrats??

That is my favorite Case knife, and have you guys noticed how much the older ones are bringing on ebay?? Geez!! The last few slightly used pre '80 Muskrats have brought around $80 each!! A local gun shop has a 1977 mint bone Muskrat for about $80, I might should snatch it up!! Thinking about trying to trade a '79 Founders stag barlow for it (mint in a case) Would that be a fair trade?? I gave $75 for it a few years ago. Talk to me about some 'Rats!!

hi,

i know what you mean, the muskrats really fetch a price. even the ones that arent in that good of shape. this is my muskrat. its a 1978 in near mint condition. i got this one from a local guy that sells case knives. he was asking 75 originally and i asked him what would be his bottom dollar on it and he thought for a minute and then said 65.00, so i jumped on it. i am very pleased with the knife and best of all, feel like i got a good deal.

as for trading the founders barlow, i dont know if i would, if it were mine. i am quite fond of the barlows also and a stag handle one, i dont have as they are also quite expensive. i would probably hold on to that one and try to pick up a deal on a muskrat, if i could. just my opinion tho.

I sold a '79 Founders stag barlow mint in display just a couple weeks ago. They are selling in the $80-$90 range right now.

I like the Muskrat also, in fact it was my first Case.
I've been watching the green handled ones from the early '80's on ebay. Most are Hawbakers, but a couple had serrated blades. The lowest priced one went for $89 with the hightest going over $153. That's a bit out of the range I'm willing to pay, but if thats what they're selling for I guess thats what they're worth.
Anyway trading a stag barlow for a muskrat, I would try to get them to throw in something extra. Thats just my opinion because I really don't know the value of the barlow.

Those are very nice

My one and only Case muskrat. It's relatively new but I like the black bone handles.

Here's a 1987 muskrat. I picked it up at a flea market in 1996. Wasn't too pricey only $15. It has some marks in the blades and some peppering on the bolsters but it wasn't sharpened too much. It's what got me started on Case.
