I believe I have a A fruit knife engraved 1808 can anyone tell me how to research this item. It is engraved with someones name dated 1808 and has a gold blade.

If you post photos of the knife ( see answers to your previous post ), someone may help you identify what kind of knife you have, and possibly the maker.
Finding " Mrs.Martin " is probably impossible unless you had much more information.
You would need to know what country Mrs. Martin resided in, in 1808, and even then many people shared the same name. U.S. census records in the early years often did not name a spouse, but simply listed an adult female in the household, and you don't have a given name anyway.
Do you have any history of the knife ? Did it pass down through a family that you know ? Where ? What city, town, township ?
Even if you knew exactly where the knife came from, without a first name ( and a middle initial too, would be better ), only a guess could be made. Think about 3 married brothers. Without a first name, which gave his wife a fruit knife ?
