And the way they keep saying that they intend to build a plant in the US " in the future". They call the people who make the knives in China RoseCraft employees, I wonder if that is true.

Right! Why build a plant in USA when you get tons of cheap labor overseas?OLDE CUTLER wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2026 1:34 am And the way they keep saying that they intend to build a plant in the US " in the future". Re: Boycott RoseCraft blades
I love my RoseCraft Blades and Great Eastern Cutlery knives. I have no hangups purchasing goods made in China as long as the expected quality is realized. In the case of RCB, those expectations are constantly exceeded. My love of the GEC brand is on full display annually as I coordinate our club knife sale which will be launching soon. Last year we sold 200+ knives in 2 days so for sure I’m not the only one digging the brand.American Blade 92 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2026 1:01 am Way too expensive for knives made in china at the rough rider division (no doubt).
Boycott GEC too.
I will not be joining you in your boycott of either RCB or GEC.

I will not be joining either.
GEC is currently producing the finest production traditional pocketknives on the planet.
I only own 3 Rosecrafts. I may or may not buy others. But to compare them to RRs is kind of silly.
Their quality is WAY above RRs.

No boycott here.
I have three RCBs. Fit and finish on all three exceptional.
AB92, please tell me you have absolutely no Chinese made products in your home.
Your right to purchase what you want, but personally I think it's a bit hypocritical to slam one Chinese product and rail against the Communist machine while enjoying your Chinese made _____________.

Re: Boycott RoseCraft blades
I have yet to buy a Rosecraft knife but it’s not because I am boycotting them. I want one but every time I see one that I like, I find something about it that keeps me from pulling the trigger.
The Birchfield Camp Jack for example, is too fat for a single blade knife and the tang sticks up too high with the blade closed. Aside from that, I love it but I won’t buy one for those reasons.
I am probably coming up on 10 years since I bought a GEC but that’s only because I want stainless steel.

I have no Rosecraft knives, but what's your beef with GEC? If it's the prices the secondary market is charging, that's not GEC's fault.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Re: Boycott RoseCraft blades
RoseCraft blades are just too expensive.
If they were $25 -$30 I would buy them. But their prices are close to Case prices. An example: like the the single blade jack $60. You could buy a two blade Case Trapper for that. And as for GEC, they are phenomenal knives, no doubt.
But when I've visited their factory I felt like they were very rude to me. My opinion is, if your customer comes in to spend hundreds of dollars on your product, you can at least smile and be inviting. They made me feel like I was a nuisance. I won't buy GEC knives anymore.

Re: Boycott RoseCraft blades
Just guessing here, but as long as the knives are selling, I bet the manufacturer thinks they are not too expensive. I do not have any Rosecrafts, but that is because they do not make anything that I crave. Rosecraft seems to be pretty close to Rough Ryder Reserve in price.
As for GEC: am I boycotting them if I just cannot afford their knives?

Re: Boycott RoseCraft blades
NO boycott from me, this is a bunch of bull and would only hurt folks like our own member Tony with Corn Creek Cutlery. I don't think the issue here has anything to do with price or quality. Both brands have great prices (in today's market) and in my opinion the quality is just as good as if not better than many other brand of knives.
I just looked at the CASE website and the only knives priced lower than the RCB's is the Blackhorn, the Sod Buster Jr. and a couple of odd ones. Every other knife is priced right there with RCB's but most of the CASE inventory is much higher. The issue here with most people is political, not prices and I'm not willing to make something I love to do (knife collecting) another political issue to argue about. Buy what you like, buy what you can afford and leave the politics out of it.
I started out collecting CASE knives simply because of the name recognition. My dad only used Sears Craftsman knives and he told me I was waisting money on those over-priced knives, I have 129 of their knives now. I have over 100 Rough Ryder knives and 13+ RoseCraft Blades, and as a matter of fact I need to send Tony an order in for one of those Birchfield that just came out. Everyone have a blessed day and buy another knife....of any brand.

I'm not boycotting either brand. The handful of GEC's I'm fortunate to own are my finest pocket knives. I only have one RC, and F&F is quite a bit better by any measure than the Rough Ryder's I've had. Agree, it's alot for a Chinese made knife & I probably won't buy others unless they come out with a pattern that really speaks to me. Plus the handle material options are very limited on each of their patterns - wish they offered more options.

Re: Boycott RoseCraft blades
I don’t own any Rosecraft. My problem with Rosecraft is the lack of choices in multiple blade configurations. They do have a two blade trapper model that I’m aware of, but that’s all that I know of. If they are made in the same factory as RR Reserve that’s a plus. The RRR008 I’m carrying is probably the best stockman I’ve owned. I’m over the China revulsion. While I don’t like their government, I can’t avoid their products and I’m not going to waste my energy worrying about it.
I’d love to own more GEC, but the prices give me pause. They are great knives in styles that I love with great materials and workmanship. But when I consider one I always feel like it should go ‘bang’ at that price. That’s kind of hypocritical of me because I still buy the occasional Benchmade or gallon of diesel.

I recommend watching this 18 minute video which highlights only a portion of the 200+ processes to build a GEC knife. Like most things in life, you get what you pay for with GEC.
