Mammoth Ivory Bulldog Toe

Post by Luckypaul777 »

I can't seem to find this knife listed; as being made in the 1995 in Parker's Guide Volume 8. Are any left out or could this not be the real deal? I don't want to pull the trigger; until I get some ADVICE from the Experts here. Thanks.

I don't know what to say about this knife except to give what I know.

I have many Bulldog knives that are not in the book and many that the only documentation is a 1 of 1 Prototype on the back of the knife, just like the 1995 knife I pictured have here. Looks like a stockman or muskrat frame with one blade and was not cheap.

In 1995 Bulldog introduced the E-TOE as a new pattern for Bulldog. The following is the header in book 7 and is in book 3 the colored picture volumne. Jim Parker wrote the following in book 7 and book 3, the first book that had the 1995 knives: "4 1/4 ELEPHANT TOENAIL 1995 PRODUCTION A new Bulldog pattern. The Sunfish Set, The Big Five Series, Canine Series, Appaloosa Horse and Christmas Knife produced on this. Color etch On all these knives." END QUOTE

This leaves me with a few questions.

1. Why did James Parker and Ed Henley feel it was necessary to remove this information that is important to collectors?
2. Look closely at that COA, did Jim or James sign that COA?
3. There are no recorded (documented) knives with Mastodon Bark Ivory for Bulldog until nearly 2000. Certainly not in the third generation. There are about 100 interior ivory Cuttin' Horses and I was told they were not made in 1993, but later. No comment - I don't know.
4. Exactly where is that Mastodon engraving fit with the series above that was LEFT OUT OF BOOK 8.
5. It is the first E-Toe for Bulldog, it would have been well documented.
6. Does that COA start to say I certify..... like all those 1st Generation European stag knives? Like the ones in this picture, some had a 1st generation COA the real ones did not!
7. Do you think that given the first E-Toe, the first Mastodon Bark Ivory that this knife would have had a big following? Given that we know Jim Parker was a salesman and marketer, wouldn't this knife be of great collector importance.

8. I really don't know, the bag is insignificant - they did not give those out with the 95 E-Toes, at least I never got one.

All I have is questions when I see that knife, no answers. It's fishy to me that they removed the header info in book 8, I used that a lot. This is not the only thing that they left out of book 8.

Can you tell me which are the real first generation knives, only half are. The rest have European stag which is nice in it's own way, but it certainly does not stack up against real first generation stag.

Yes, and you have to read book 3, 4, 5, 6 or book 7 to read the header that was removed in book 8. Many times that header conains some very vital information, such in this case where a Mastodon etch just doesn't fit. ::shrug::

when lucky first posted the question, i looked in #8, assuming the info was the same or better than past editions. wrong. could'nt find squat. looked in parker's "knife collectors encyclopedia" (2004) which includes bulldogs, squat again. convenient eh, change to fit your own agenda. 10 years later - 1 of 1. prototype. bulls**t. how could a series of 64 e-toes be left out? hmmmmmmmmmm. i wonder how many "old" blades are still there ready to assemble. jmo

Thanks Hukk and johnnie; looks like a no go for me. Thought that I would email; the main man for Bulldog knives (Buzz); he couldn't remember, there seems to be a memory loss. I had the same response; when asking about the Shapleigh's and Simmons, go figure.
