Howdy to One and All From a New Member

My name is Darrell but I usually go by my nickname Hukk. I got that moniker because the coaches could not pronounce my Finnish last name and it has stuck for the last 35 plus years. I collect Bulldog Brand Knives and I am in the collecting mode at this time, no sales for now. I have been a power seller on eBay as dhukk for some time and I am a little (OK a lot) tired of them right now. I got into knife collecting in the 1980's. It all got started when I went on a hunting trip and I took this knife that I thought was a junker. Was I ever wrong. It was a souvenir knife from Maui and had a bone handle with scrimshaw and on the tang was Japanese Surgical Steel. I got a buck on that trip and after I dressed the buck, the knife was as sharp as when I got it. I used the knife to dress 5 more bucks before I sharpened it (OK the last one was a might rough). 5 bucks were Pacific Blacktails (about 110 lbs dressed for a good one) and 1 was a big 240 lb Mule Deer. That knife outperformed all other knives I have owned and taught me a lesson. That knife was a little 3 inch closed Parker BOB CAT with a bone handle that I still have and use, Oh it has been sharpened a few times now, always holds a good edge. The scrimshaw is long gone from pocket wear but the lesson stays. I keep a few Parkers around to remind myself to reserve judgment until I test a knife out. This does seem like a great forum with a lot of knowledgable true knife folks. I must say that I have read the posts a couple of weeks before I signed up, so I know that there are a lot of great folks here. As for Sonoma County, I'd rather not be here but 2 things keep me here. The first is the great abalone diving. The second and most important is my 12 year old niece. She lives with her dad who is a good guy, but her mother (my wife's sister) is not in her life, apparently by choice. My wife is like a mother to her and plays the female role model/mother for her. When she is an adult we plan to move as it is getting rather crowded around here. Sonoma County is beautiful though. I look forward to meeting more folks and enjoying this forum. THANKS!

I used to live all over Calif myself but mostly spent my time in the Bay area around the 80's & 90's, at those times I fished the Bay area waters for Big & I mean Big ---> Sturgeon, Stripped Bass, Salmon & Leopard Shark (Ha, those were the day's) ... Man, I remember the 80's fishing San Pablo Bay, you could keep a 6 foot sturgeon then. The pumphouse, Sonoma Creek, Rockwall, Mothball Fleet, mouth of the Napa River, the Radar Towers, Suisun Bay, Hamilton Flats, and of course Mr Sturgeon, Keith Fraser, who holds an annual seminar. I bet some of those names sound familiar to you. We likely spent time on the same water. We got some really big fish, but the biggest limits we ever got was fishing the Sacramento River out of Colusa during the striper run in April. It was a painful ordeal, spending the night on the cold river in a 14 foot aluminum boat. I got a lot of stories on that one night but the 4 of us (2 aluminum boats, 2 per boat) got the biggest limits I have ever seen. It was unbelievable! You're right, those were the days! I'll add an abalone picture. 10.75 x 9+ inches, I'm a trophy Hunter!

----- Very nice Trophy Abalone Shell (WOW )! ... Yes Hukk, those fishin spots do bring back memories for me, I used to work & live in Vallejo & of course the nearest fishin for me was here in town & across the Bridge behind the C & H Sugar plant & also behind the PG & E plant at a place called "Hot Waters". These two places were very good for me in October from the bank for Big Stripped Bass (19 to 47 ibs.) with the incoming tides at night with large (live) Bull Heads & White hair raisers ... In town I would fish by boat at the mouth of the Napa River or go to the old Vallejo Pier (also at night) for Striper in the shallow & Strugeon in the deep & I used live Mud Sucker for both fish, I always caught my bait fish but when I could not catch any or didn't have time I always bought my live bait from "Millies" & was good friends with her until she passed away, Millie used to put me in the "Fish Snifer" from time to time & referred to me as "MR. Roger" ... anyway, I'M glad you joined us here on AAPK site & hope to hear from you on our forum page!
