German Eye Clodbuster

Post by NCC1701 »

So I have a question. The knife in the pics is mine. I have owned since it was new. When I was a kid, my father had a boss that was a true knife guy. I wanted one of those “gas station knives” my dad knew they were crap so he went to his boss and asked him about getting me a good knife. His boss gave him this Eye Brand and he gave it to me. I was not allowed to have it for several years because it was very hard to open and very sharp. That was about 1976. So my question is why is there no writing on the blade itself. Every one of these knives I see pictures of has the brand written across the side of the blade. It has the eye brand stamp but not the name on the blade itself. Is there a reason? Does it predate the name on the blade?

Fine looking knife. I do know that many earlier Carl Schlieper Eye Brand sodbusters were not etched out on the blades so I believe your knife is an earlier one. About thirty years ago I bought a large group of mint, older Eye Brand knives and all of them had the two-eye etch out on the master blades with the exception of the sodbusters in that group that were not etched. Sodbusters are hardworking knives and as such many sodbusters of different manufacture are not etched as they did not warrant some of the finer touches found on more expensive and fancier knives.

Member Paladin is a resident expert on AAPK for Eye Brand knives and he may have more specific knowledge on your knife.
