Please help identifying this old beautiful stag handle lock back pocket knife.

Here is an old beauty for all those antique stag handle lovers out there.

Very old. My guess is the late 1800's. Bolsters on one end only. The other end is sort of a swell end. Lock back type. 4 1/2" long when closed and 7 1/2" long when fully open.

The tang stamp area is pretty worn. The lock back is rather high up on the spine.

Any guess on who the maker is?

It appears to be German-made. The bolster pins are a dead giveaway. Unfortunately, there were a bunch of makers from that era and it would be difficult to say which one without a readable tang stamp. Nice stag and a real keeper

The pin looks to have been replaced, so it might not be German based on the steel pin. The rest of the pins and the shield might give the maker away if you can find enough old lockbacks to compare it with._____Dave

I believe Red might have it. i thought I saw remnants of "ON" on the tang before I read his post. O'.

My first thought was Robeson. Is there any remnant of a pattern number on the back of the blade tang?

If indeed the pin has been replaced there's a good chance that is not original blade to the knife. The stamp may be of no use for identifying.

The bottom left knife "Lockback Hunter" that 1967redrider posted sure is close. I did notice that his picture states "Bone" though and this one is stag. The shield is close but not the same as well. The dimensions are the same at 4 1/2" when closed.

I agree that the bolster pin looks to be a replacement so the blade may not be original. I cant make out any type of stamps.

I think it is probably a Robeson Shuredge where the blade has been changed out. Maybe originally an earlier variation of the one 1967redrider posted. I think it is just too close to say otherwise.
