Strange Kershaw Trooper

Kershaw began its foray into the knife business sometime during 1974. The company was originally based in Portland Oregon, but most early knives were manufactured in Japan. The first US manufacturing plant was opened in 1997 & the company currently offers knives made in the U.S., Japan, & China. Pete Kershaw (an ex Gerber salesman) started the business.

So I have a Vintage Kershaw Trooper pre-1980 with a Tiger maple handle.Has standard markings Trooper and Kershaw KAI Japan No serial number 5" blade w/o fuller.Brass guard and pommel Very nice knife but cant find anything on this one .It has the Al Mar style handle w/o any AM markings.
Came in gray box w/o a sheath or paper work.. may be a prototype or a custom from Japan.

Oh that's a beauty! The Trooper is still missing my checkmark next to it on my Wish List.
For sure you should engage KAI Group, or at leat KAI USA and start an inquiry about it. https://www.kaiusa.com/contact-us

For all their proud marketing language, I would think they would open a case number and find out about this piece for you. I would suggest adding some clear and detailed photos of the knife to help them as they help you.

Let us know if you follow through with this - will make for a great read and encouragement to us all.
