Looking to buy a 112 Slim Pro TRX in the S30V.
But I’m seeing more than a few reviews about this particular series of knives where the knives have some pretty rough F&F. Bad centering, faulty grinds, uneven finishing, difficulty opening and closing?!
Of note is that the other “Slim” series with the 420hc, doesn’t seem to have the same issues.
Some of these reviews were older, some newer.
There are also plenty of good reviews. But nearly all of these were from Buck or a retailer that was selling them, and they read like press releases…
Anyone have any experience with this model recently?
Any info on whether or not these knives were an isolated run, and the QC issues have been rectified?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

A 4.1 rating on Buck’s own site, that’s like a B- on average. For the $100 price point there are dozen of knives with higher reviews (if you can trust the reviews). I’d buy more on Buck’s guarantee against workmanship and work with Buck until you get the knife you want and you can be a part of the 62% that gave a 5-star review.

Thanks for your quick reply!
So, apart from Buck’s own website, which I have read through, you haven’t heard if the QC issues on this particular model were addressed?

I have not. I personally don’t put a lot of stock in reviews because I know their credibility to be spotty. Put the knife in your hand and the F&F of your knife will either be 5-stars or 1-star which translates to put it through your duty cycle or exercise the workmanship warranty. I’d take a shot.Good Old Luke wrote: ↑Sun Sep 21, 2025 5:54 pm Thanks for your quick reply!
