Tarry levigne query

Post by Pk1000tlh »

Hello all, mark here, new member.
Just wondering if anyone could give me an approximate age for this knife. I'm guessing 1880's???
Thanks,
Mark

Hard to say how old it is, but it looks old. It also looks like a Navaja style clasp knife, which is a very old pattern most believe originated in Moorish Spain and migrated from there to other regions of the world. Looks like probably horn handles with a metal inlay? It might help to see more pictures of it with blade open, and clear in-focus pictures of all the markings on the knife. Goins’ Encyclopedia lists “Tarry” and the lizard stamp, but has no information regarding years of operation.
