Headed to Kansas City, MO

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Headed to Kansas City, MO

Post by 1967redrider »

Anyone ever heard of this place??? Anything fun to do there??? 🀭

We're traveling on Thursday, my wife's great-neice's graduation is on Saturday. Since we have a rental car, Kansas City, KS, is an option too. πŸ˜‰

Here is my 2 cents.......if you want BBQ, skip Bryant's and Gates, and go to a Joe's location (formerly Oklahoma Joe's). If you wish to do a little railfanning, head to Santa Fe Junction. If you have time (couple of hours) the Steamboat Arabia museum downtown is awesome, it and the WW1 museum would be good rainy day activities. Stroud's is an iconic spot for fried chicken. Are the Royals in town? Nice ballpark.

I agree, nice ballpark. If the Royals are home you should go.

I've been told the stockyard has been converted into a mall.

Wear a good pair of rubber boots if you go shopping there.

Apparently, there's a fair amount to see and do in Lawrence, KS, which is about 40 miles from Kansas City. Among other thngs, it's the site of the Lawrence Massacre by Quantrell and his men during the Civil War.

It's been a great visit so far. 547 kids graduated from Liberty North H.S. this morning at the T-Mobile Center.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our visit to KC and with my wife's family who lives here.

The Plaza District was an awesome airb&b selection that my wife found. Jack Stack BBQ was delicious, but the Joe's brisket sandwich I had today was simply amazing. Great sides too, and my wife loved the Smokie Joe sandwich she had, which was beef and pork.

Her family introduced us to The Peanut, delicious huge Buffalo wings. We walked over 6 miles each days at various parks, saw Civil War monuments, Italian Gondolas in action, a bunch of interesting water fountains and dozens of CP and BNSF trains.

I think I could live here.

Great post, John, glad you found Joe's to your liking. I really like the station pics, and the Katy Flyer schedule. You being a hiker, the old MKT line has been converted to a lengthy trail across Missouri.... the Katy Trail.
