Buck knife

I have a Buck 301 that I bought back around 1983. I guess I carried / used it more than any knife I own. I bought a 2 blade Cadet later on but it is a little small. I'm wondering what model 2 blade knife is the next size up? I would like the find one about the same time period. Those blades are easy to sharpen razor sharp. That 301 Stockman really was a good knife. I retired it several years ago and carried a 703 for a long time. Buck's are hard to beat.

I believe the 70’-up to ‘85 Buck 301 was made by Camillus. I have a 305 I use for whittling(reprofiled edge) and it is a great knife and gets razor sharp. Hopefully someone chimes in with some more info for you.

I bought a 2 blade Cadet later on but it is a little small. I'm wondering what model 2 blade knife is the next size up?

I believe the 301 or the 701 are the next sizes up. Buck made a couple 2 blade 301 models but they are both Limited Edition knives. Both have long pulls and Full Flat Ground blades.

The 2018 BladeForum knife was a 2 blade 301 with CPM154 steel and Elk covers.

Then there was the September 2021 Buck of the Month 301 with 420HC steel.

Thank You both for responding. Neither of those knives appeal to me even if I found one My 301 has black delrin handles The 703 has Rosewood.

To the best of my knowledge, those are the only 2 blade slip joint knives that Buck makes that are larger than the 303 Cadet.

They do still make the 301 in black Sawcut delrin but as you already know, it has 3 blades.

The next size larger American made two blade Buck was the 4 1/4" (closed) 311 Trapper. They were only made by Camillus which should not worry you since you were happy with your Camillus made Buck 301. They usually or maybe always had the same black Delrin handles as your 301.

If you had not specifically asked for a two blade model then I'd suggest the 4 1/4" Buck 307 Stockman, another Buck that was only made by Camillus. I love them. However, Camillus made several versions of the same 4 1/4" Stockman pattern with their own brand on them and more branded Remington that are usually priced lower. The Camillus models with stainless blades have the same blade steel as the Buck 307 and your 1983 Buck 301. The Remingtons and Camillus models with carbon steel blades have 1095 alloy blades. Be ware of Chinese made Camillus and Remington imports. They are not the same.

If you want an even larger two blade Buck there was the folding hunter size, 5 1/4" closed, Buck 317, another Buck that was only made by Camillus.

I have a 317 and it's a heck of a knife. I never had the sheath for it . Someone gave it to be about 25 years ago. I'm probably going to look for another 301 like mine and be happy. I'm retired now and I don't carry a heavy knife much anymore but I would like to have another one. The Cadet is a nice little knife but It just needs to be a little bigger. The original pouches for 317s were just 110 pouches with a different number stamped on the back of them. Since I'm retired in a rural area and no longer have to consider what other people think about the size of the knife in my pouch I can wear 317/110 size knives. I'd like a 317. However, I also stick a small knife in my watch pocket and it gets used a lot.

The first knife I bought myself with money from my news paper route was an early 301 that I now know was made by Schrade. I still have it.
