Muskrat short blade

Just had a conversation with a guy about his Case muskrat. In describing the blade condition he referred to the short blade???Am I to understand that the Case muskrat has 2 different length blades???

Good question. I believe that muskrat blades are of equal length. I also could be mistaken.
Someone with more knowledge might have a better answer.

Could this have been a 6247 of some sort?

A flea market seller showed me stag-handled 47 that had the clip and spey of a 6347, but only on one spring.

No; blades are identical length. It may be a used knife, blades can be "short" from sharpening.

Ask your friend if a tang is stamped MUSKRAT. They all have been for a long time. If it is then Knifoholic is right. Someone used an electric sharpener that was too coarse for thin Case blades.

Well, at least it now has a Muskrat blade anyway. I have seen 6247's with one California Clip and the other a short clip blade on the opposite end. But that is not a true Muskrat.

My guess is it may have sharpening damage as noted above.

Changing the topic to 6247s, this is copied and pasted from the AAPK reference section:

The two-bladed 47 pattern is usually placed in the double end jack knife category and measures 3 7/8" closed. As far as I know, they all have a 0 preceding the pattern number which denotes that the blades will be on opposite sides. The knives normally have a clip master blade and either a pen or spear secondary blade. The spear bladed versions will have a J following the pattern number. W.R. Case began producing them sometime before 1940.

Accompaning that quote is a picture of a 6247 with the usual clip and short spey blades. There's no mention of 6247s with short clip blades but Case has made many small batches of knives with non-standard features to get us to let them slip their fingers into our wallets another time.
