Cattaraugus Little Valley NY
Cattaraugus Little Valley NY
My father gave me this knife and I was hoping someone could tell me what the model and year of it is. He has a collection and asks me to list them for him.

I'm a Catt collector but I'm no expert. The knife is not a pattern I've seen in vintage catalogs. It may be a modern reproduction. The jigging is not familiar to me, reminds me more of Case style, not Catt. Is there a pattern number on the pile side of one of the tangs? I hope it's all good but I have questions. Good luck with it. J.O'.

Thank you for your reply. I can’t locate any numbers on the pile side, or anywhere else.

Thank you for the feedback. Is it certainly a fake? I’m new to this so I lack that experience that you have.

Thought so. Sorry O'.
Re: Cattaraugus Little Valley NY
Looks to me like an A G Russell Cattaraugus. He owned the Cattaraugus name brand for a while and had a lot of knives made for his company with the Cattaraugus markings. Case now owns the Catt brand.

Re: Cattaraugus Little Valley NY
True but AGR would always put their name on the knife as well, so as to avoid confusion.
The OP knife looks like a well made well finished knife, but 100% fake.

Re: Cattaraugus Little Valley NY
I agree it’s a fake. It looks like a new modern production knife rather than an old Cattaraugus. I can’t recall ever seeing a Catt with a dentate (match striker) pull. There’s an entire subforum here about Cattaraugus with lots of pictures so maybe there’s an example there, but I doubt it. https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kn ... .php?f=118

The jigging and pulls look Japanese to me. Perhaps a Parker maybe Valor. Nice enough knife at least

That's my Etsy store where I sell old knives and sometimes handmade knife accessories to support my knife habbit. Thanks for looking my friend.

Another way to look at it - if it is real, it would be the very first Cattaraugus of this pattern that anyone has ever seen. Also the very first Cattaraugus with this bone color and jigging that anyone has ever seen. Also the very first Cattaraugus with that style of lonfg checkered pull that anyone has ever seen. Also the very first Cattaraugus with that tang stamp that anyone has ever seen...Mumbleypeg wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 11:36 pm I agree it’s a fake. It is truly an "across the room" fake.

I’m glad I asked. Thank you for the info!
