I don't know anything about this brand. It is my all time favorite hunting knife. I know I have field dressed over 100 deer with it. I use the small knife to unzip them and the big one to skin and bone them. I remember the day I got it. I was gassing up my Dad's brand new 1972 Chevy C30. One of my friends that worked in the station asked if I would give him 10 bucks for it? I said, man, it's Wednesdaya day I only have 10 for the rest of the week. He laughed a d said give me 5. Then he said a customer had to get his car inspected ASAP. They only charged 5 bucks to inspect a car in 1972. On the front it says EDGE MARK SOLINGEN GERMANY, on the back the #426. The sheath has a deer embossed on it. Small blade is about 2 1/4", 5 " over all. Big blade is 4 1/2", 8" over all. It is very sharp, takes and holds an edge well. I use the big blade to cut through the ribs, all the way up the neck. Any info on the knife is appreciated, Joe

Gutmann Cutlery Co. imported Edge Mark knives from Solingen. Gutmann started importing knives from Germany in 1947. Gutmann also used the brands Edge and Edge Brand. They are very good knives but most can not be traced to a specific manufacturer.

Thanks, I actually saw this exact set in a cutlery shop in the early 80's. I think it was around $89. Just thought it was cool to see my set. Wasn't interested in the history at the time.

I was looking through my knife drawer for a Bowie that has "Original Bowie" on the blade. Turns out it's an Edge Brand Soligen Germany.

I have noticed quite a few German made clip point hunting knives from that time period etched original Bowie knife. It's likely many of them were imported by Guttmann. I think that etch is out of place on knives with blades barely 4 inches long. It looks like yours might be 5 - 5 1/2". That's still on the small side for a Bowie but it's all marketing. It could have made a good general purpose camping/hunting knife if you didn't have the smaller one that you like better. I like stag handles on anything.
