The three blades: clip (the longest blade), the sheepsfoot (along side the clip) and the spey (used mostly by farmers for castration), along with a serpentine frame, identifies it as a stockman pattern.
The simple answer for what it's used for, not to be too obvious, is to cut things.
As to age, sorry. Someone smarter than me will be able to help you with that.
Nice find! Clean it up, sharpen it, and carry it. Looks like it has many years left in it to serve you well.
Take care and God bless,

Here’s a pic and info from Mike Silveys book .
Be careful with cleaning the main blade. The etches on those wipe off easy with certain cleaners . With that etch it’s worth a bit more than without a nice clear etch .

Hi, yes, I saw the knife in Mike Silvey's book. However, aside from acknowledging the knife's existence, there is not too much information regarding who used the knife, and what the purpose of the knife was...aside from "to cut things". Mike's book doesn't even say what branch of service contracted for these knives. Does anybody have any of this information, or is anybody able to point me in the right direction to find it.

A few years ago ,give or take some, Smitty( papa Bones ) and I had a conversation here on this forum regarding this “ property of govt “ etch . We both had been in the US Army and agreed that the Armorers and some Direct Support unit tool rooms had us sign for these. We were supposed to bring them back before discharge or getting a different duty assignment. The purpose was basically To Cut whatever. They’re not like the TL 29 or any other spec d out tool . If you can find a NSN for your knife it might help you some.
If I can find Smitty post will send you that info. He went into in more detail.
Best can do for now . Enjoy your knife ::handshake::

I aquired one of these a while ago, and read in Mr. Silvey’s book that the delrin handle Kutmaster stockman with this etch was most likely 1950’s-60’s. That’s all I can help with. Very nice knife though.
