Remington ?

I acquired this Remington with a metal handle, I’m trying to find out any history about it and the year it was made?

The Tang on this knife is RS3333 so years made between 1924-1933 but I cannot anywhere find one with solid metal handles as this one? Anyone ever encounter one

The “3” in the last position would indicate bone rather than metal handles. Bone handles come from the shinbone of cows. Over the years, it has been the most used material in making knife handles. It allows for a wide range of variation because it can be died any color, and jigged in many different ways.

I’m far from a Remington expert but we have several here that will weigh-in when they see your post. I’ve been collecting official Scouts for over 50 years and I’ve never seen a metal handled RS3333 for what it’s worth.

I agree and since I can’t seem to find an example I’m am wondering if it was some sort of custom there is no shackle holes and even the can opener lift has a notch out in the metal

In my humble opinion that's a shade tree repair and rather a poor one. It likely had bone handles that were damaged and were replaced with metal / aluminum or whatever that is. The pins that hold the bone on the liners have also been eliminated as well as the bail. If it has sentimental value, fine, but it doesn't have much collector value at all. Don't true Remington scout knives have a punch?

I would say it’s an rs3333 scout and with that vertical lift tab on the can opener and a long style screw driver that should date it from 1927-29 .
Handles look like home made aluminum or led to me .
I’m sure if it could tell some stories they would be great , someone loved it .

like someone obtained civil war lead bullets from an area shot tower, then after melting them down, proceeded to hand hammer and carefully shape the scales to the optimum size - that kind of story

Thanks everyone for the knowledge base, I’ll check to see if handles are magnetic, Thanks Mike for the very precise dates I know it’s not very collectible because of the handles but a true treasure to me, I really dig the ones that have some tales to tell. I’m taking a guess that it was rehandled during the depression because nobody threw anything out during those lean years

The value may be low, but the knife has been well worked and loved by someone over the years. The knife has character and still fulfills its original purpose after decades of service.
