Boker Tree Brand age?

Post by Banjo86 »

I have this knife that belonged to my great uncle, it was given to me by my grandma after he passed. I know that it is a Boker Tree Brand, made in Germany, and is a full congress style. I would just like ro know the age. I have found similar knives for sale on ebay that were called "vintage", but none had the plain wooden scales. Thay all had either bone or perhaps plastic. One of the larger blades has "Tree Brand Classic" etched in it, but it's worn. Any info much appreciated.

Looks like the "G-20"stamp, 1960's to the present. Click on the "Tang Stamps Charts" thread at the top of this page. About 1/2 way down the first page is a chart for Boker. Good Luck, J.O'.

Thanks, so I guess there's no way to really determine a more precise age?

Most manufacturers did not start date coding by year until sometime mid-to-late 1970s. Some never have. So unless there was a change in the tang stamp or pattern, etc that someone can trace back to a specific year’s catalog, it’s often very difficult to determine precisely when a knife was made.

For most brands it’s a range of 20-30, or 50 years (sometimes more). They were making tools, not collectables. No one cared when the knife was made and manufacturers typically did not keep that type of records. Then around early 1970s along came us collectors and suddenly there are people like us, obsessing over when their knife was made! ::facepalm::
