Information on curtin and clark knife

Does anybody know anything about this curtin and clark knife. Any and all information helps. I have searched but haven't had any luck.

It doesn't look like a "good" knife to me.

I don’t feel Ike that knife looks that old, almost looks like some kind of Parker creation to me. That said I do not know and am just speculating.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news. I’m no expert on Curtin & Clark but it has the earmarks of a counterfeit knife. Aside from not looking like an old knife (which an authentic Curtin & Clark should), if you don’t know what those earmarks are, and to protect from buying a future fake, recommend you go to the Counterfeit Watch forum here and read through the educational posts there.

Smith1420, I too see several indicators that the knife is not original.
First, I do not recall seeing a main blade shaped like that on any old Stockman knives. I would expect either a Clip point or a Spear point. Also the match strike pulls look more like modern Rough Ryder work than old pulls, to me anyway.

Secondly, the tangs have definitely been shaved down, in order to use counterfeit tang stamps. The line at the top of the tangs should be straight. That upswept curve usually indicates a counterfeit.

The third sign is the brass pins in the bolsters. I don't know why the counterfeiter used brass and not nickel silver, but the knife has obviously been taken apart.

The best way to spot a fake is to become very familiar with the real thing first. Unfortunately we all get burned a time or two before we gain experience, and often even afterwards too.

Tangs not shaved down, they were made that way and you'll never see that on an old knife. One big "tell" is the KKK with the cloaked klansman. KKK marked knives are fakes. Curtin and Clark also didn't use dentate (match striker) pulls.

Thanks Gene! It's always good to learn a new word. According to Merriam-Webster, dentate means "having teeth or pointed conical projections".

Hi Herb! Dentate is from the same latin root as dentist. Another word for dentate is toothed or toothy. Levine uses the word in descriptions. Match striker pull originates from the same 70s collectors who called Prestolite keys on knife blades as skate keys. I have tried to light strike anywhere matches on dentate pulls with little luck, easier to use the sole of a shoe. (old style flat soles)
