Early Bowie style knife.

The Cattaraugus Cutlery Company was started by John Champlin and his son Tint in 1882. It was first incorporated under the name J.B.F. Champlin and Son as a wholesale distribution company based in Little Valley, New York. The business proved to be a successful endeavor, and it soon branched into a knife production company named Cattaraugus.

Early Bowie style knife.

Post by MCM »

Have this Bowie on its way in the mail.
Have not seen another one like it. Seller claimed it was made in 1915.
But have no idea. Any info on this one would be much appriciated!
Unable to find a model / model number etc.
Also found this thrower. Based on a Case knife, best guess.
Thanks in advance!

Bowie hunter was made for Catt by Kinfolks, no earlier than 1926-27. The throwing knife is a Kinfolks product also, 1930s. Bowie hunter is also likely 1930s. From 1926 until WW2 Kinfolks made all the fixed blade knives for Catt and 1926-1932 made all the fixed blades for Case.

Thank you! That explains it. I did know Kinfolks had a thrower like the Case.
But for some reason was thinking Case probably made them for Kinfolks and Catt.
But now I know. Also, so tough knowing the value on these.
I dont plan to sell them. Just curious what you think the market value is on the Thrower and Bowie Hunter.
Thank you!

I don't really like to give values because they are different to different places and people. The bowie hunter is quite worn from sharpening, I'd expect to see it for under a hundred bucks around here. Hard to get fifty for the little throwers no matter what the mark is.
