I’m guessing but looks like a German made factory knife rather than a custom knife.
You can always get more money, good old knives are hard to find.

Can you show a picture of the maker's mark?

I found the Hein name in Price's list of American custom makers and passed it along. O'.

Use the graphite (lead) end of a pencil and rub it on the stamp, as though scribbling on it. Then wipe off excess using a soft cloth. That will remove any loose rust, dirt or crud, but it will not harm or remove any metal. (Graphite is harder than rust but softer than steel.). It may help you read the letters. Does look like it says HEIN to me. ::shrug::

Hope you don’t mind, I enhanced your picture a little.

Certainly does look like a "J". Very nice looking knife but I'm afraid i have nothing on the maker. Nice find!
