AKTI membership benefits

Post by MissouriGuerrilla »

I was mulling over joining American Knife and Tool Institute as an individual and I can't find anything about benefits on their site. Can any of you tell me what you get for the $35? Membership card? Stickers? Newsletter? Etc...

Thanks.

I’ve been a member for years. I don’t take advantage of many of the benefits but I do like getting the newsletter about legislation affecting knife ownership, what’s legal (or not) to carry in various localities, and efforts to repeal restrictive state and local laws (like “automatic” knives for example). I did win a nice Leatherman K-4 knife a few years ago. AKTI (and Knife Rights - another knife advocacy group) promote knives as tools, and your right to carry and use your knife.

IMHO a worthwhile cause, pushing back on those who would take away your right to legally carry a useful tool just because some ignorant snowflakes think knives are “scary” and dangerous and therefore should be made illegal. Lawyers and lobbyists are not free. It’s easy to think “someone” will pay for it. Last time I looked up “someone” in the phone book, I didn’t find them. ::facepalm:: JMO

Last but not least, AKTI does not spam you with requests for more money! They have an annual “Free to Carry” fundraiser auctioning hundreds of knives donated by members. You can register and bid if you want to participate. Otherwise you just get an occasional newsletter.
