Henckel knife questions(shield fell off)
I have looked at a Henckel tang stamp thread but I couldn't make sense out of it because according to what was shown this was an old knife when I know it isn't that old. Could anyone date this knife for me and tell me if Henckel actually made it or not because it looks just like a Boker to me. Sorry about picture quality. Phone is junk.

Also is there anyway I can replace the shield or something because it just kills the looks of this knife. Sorry I forgot to put this in my original post.

That is a Boker made Henckels. Not certain of the date of manufacture but it would be after 1975. More likely one made a lot more recently than that. There are several out there for sale that look just like it and are manufactured in the last 25 years or so. Sorry I can’t date it any better than that. Hope this helps.

Re: Henckel knife questions(shield fell off)
I have replaced a round shield a couple of different times using a .25 or .38 (9mm) used cartridge. I had to cut and sand them down shorter than I had first expected, but in both cases it looked pretty good. Find the closest size, cut it down, and epoxy it in place. I will see if I can find pictures to show, but it tends to look kind of classy.
I have also filled the hole with colored epoxy, but that doesn't look as good on bone handles.
You might also look for a small, round charm that can replace a shield. I found some small charms with the symbols for thr different branches of service and used those.
I have considered some nicer mosaic pins as well.
There are a lot of alternatives for a lost shield if you cannot find an original.

IIRC it was Floyd, aka dogleg, who said the German word “Böker” means “missing shield”.

Got to be true. if I had a dollar for every BOKER I have seen with missing shield, I could give you half the money and still be rich. I have replaced with any number of circle things that fit and improved the appearance. Once used a piece of pearl from old jewelry that looked nice.Mumbleypeg wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2024 3:17 am IIRC it was Floyd, aka dogleg, who said the German word “Böker” means “missing shield”.![]()

You can always get more money, good old knives are hard to find.

Those were made for Henckels by Boker from 1991 -2007. If it has four blades, it's a HK-1-something. The 'something depends on the color of the scales. I can't tell from the picture, but if it's greenish it's probably a HK-1-MTM. If it's not greenish, give me your best description of the color and I might be able to give you some possible suffixes.
If it really has three blades, then it has been technicianized.
The shields are impossible to find short of buying a knife to cannibalize. The missing shield is very common on these knives as well as the round shield Bokers.

That sounds right to me from what I have seen!Mumbleypeg wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2024 3:17 am IIRC it was Floyd, aka dogleg, who said the German word “Böker” means “missing shield”.![]()

Whatever you replace the shield with, use a good two part of epoxy and clean both shield and the hole in the handle with alcohol to remove any
oil or debris that might keep the epoxy from sticking.
