Knife construction question

Anybody have an idea why Camillus put 4 scale pins in the mark side bone and 2 in the pile side? Only one I have like this. The others have 2 on both sides? Just noticed . Extra stress of the can opener ??? Thanks. O'.

There once was a shield there.
Yep, should have been a shield there with 2 pins . Sometimes the shield was not recessed in the bone during production in this period .

That utility knife with all steel liners and bolsters looks like it may have been a World War 2 U.S.A. contract. Many of those knives had a USA stamped shield, and happened to lose the shield after they were "liberated".
