1976 Buck 112

Hoyt Buck produced the first Buck Knife in 1902. Hoyt and his son Al moved to San Diego and set up shop as H.H. Buck & Son in 1947. Al Buck revolutionized the knife industry in 1964 with the infamous Model 110 Folding Hunter. The company's innovative history and attention to quality have made for many great collectible knives.

1976 Buck 112

Post by ta50gear »

Here's a pic of the 112 folder I bought way back in '76, it's seen a lot of use. Back in 2019 I took it to the NRA convention and showed it to the Buck reps at their booth. One of the Bucks signed it, (his name escapes me now) if you look hard you can see the autograph.

This was back when Buck was not skimping on materials.

It's been a few years since I bought a new Buck, just curious as to how they are skimping on materials today?

The brass on the new ones doesn't look as good as the older ones. I can't find anything wrong with their construction so there's that. A collector also told me the new ones don't have the quality of the older ones, (whatever that means) I know my 112 seems to weigh slightly more than the new ones. I'm not a Buck collector so I can't honestly say.

The engraved signature on the blade is CJ Buck's autograph/sig.

Nice looking Buck 112.

I bought a 110 in around 1974...I saved a long time for that knife, and had it for years and ysed it often. It was stolen about 2010 when someone cut my Jeep top and grabbed the 110 that was temporarily stored in the door pocket. That experience changed my mind on capital punishment.

Anyway, your 112 is a keeper for sure. Keep it safe!

I’ve had dozens of 110’s and 112’s. From very early to very new, if they are skimping on materials I haven’t seen it. The old ones open easier, they intentionally made them harder to open to avoid being called a gravity knife as I recall.

The brass on the fixed blades is different than the brass on a 110, but the 110/112’s seem to be the same. I do wish they still made the no nail nick blades.

Its a nice old knife thanks for sharing it
