Looking for a pivot that is 0.235" diameter

Post by Alan0354 »

I want to replace the pivot of my Steel Will folder knife, the existing diameter is 0.235" and 0.41" length. I have no luck finding this diameter. I can easily grind the length down if I get a longer length.

Anyone have suggestion where I can find that?

thanks

That's is .015" under 1/4". I would find a 1/4" dia nail or steel rod, which should be available at your local hardware store, and put a length of it in my drill press and use a file or sandpaper to take the .250 steel rod down to .235". Actually it's a pretty easy fix.

I was given this tip years ago by Bill Hammons who was a very knowledgeable knife repair person. This 5/0 Taper Pin Reamer, HSS, Straight Flute is an invaluable tool when you have slight variances in the size of the hole and the pin stock. Learn to use the pin reamer and you can make quick corrections. When I gave up working on knives, I think I was only using a few different sizes of pin stock for the most part. Larger knives call for larger tools. The pin reamer is .072 at the bottom and .096 at the top and you can create any size hole in between. Superman couldn't look at a hole from arm's length and tell if it was .092 or .094. The difference is subtle and for the most part undetectable. Jantz also sells these. I know this is too small for your question, but maybe a larger one would work?

I don't endorse this, just an example.
