Old Imperial knife

Post by Pops62 »

Pretty worn and I am assuming fairly old. The handles look like pearl. Marked Imperial Providence RI

The "pearl" is a swirled celluloid material commonly called "mother of toilet seat" because it was popular on toilets in the 40's and 50's. J.O'.

It is what is called a tip bolster knife. Blades look real rough.

Keep a close eye on that one - sorry to say but that rust-colored ring around the handle cover pin might be early celluloid off-gassing. I wouldn't put it with any other knives either, just in case.

Good that you spied that apparent rust spot, Mumbleypeg.

Isolating incipient out-gassers can save the perfectly stable knives in ones collection.
