1 - the Whitetail antler that I first tried to use was a tad too short to fit. Slicing that stuff to get a flat piece is a lot harder than you think!
2 - the bone that was my second choice was a bit too thin. So I decided to install G10 liners. That worked, but the black really doesn't show up well against the dark red bone.
3 - the tang was too worn on the main to keep. The replacement Schrade main blade that I had onhand was 0.015" too thin. So I made a 0.015" brass shim, which worked perfectly.
4 - the new main blade is Stainless, so I went ahead and replaced the Spey blade with a new stainless one so that they would match.
It is not rubbing, and the knife has great walk and talk, so I am happy with the results.
Knife repair is fun, overall. But if any of you non-knife-mechanics think that this is easy, you ought to think again! It seems that you always run into small challenges that you have to overcome. But that is part of the fun, to me!
