Reproduction Remington

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

That list is incomplete since they (Camillus) made Remington reproductions for years after that, until their bankruptcy. There was an up to date list published in a Knife Magazine article by Bruce Voyles a couple of years ago. I’ll see if I can find it. Since then there have been a couple of patterns made by GEC.

::tu:: Thanks Vit. That should help him. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find the article I referenced. Thought I could get it through a search of Knife Magazine on line archives but it’s only taking me to the Stewart & Ritchie book, volume 6. I have the book but it’s old so that is not an up to date list, like yours.

Bear and Son made a few Remington reproductions, too.
Here is one that I bought last year at their factory sale.

I have this 1988 R4466 Muskrat. It has "Sweepstake Winner" etched on the spey blade. Does anyone know what the sweepstake was? I have only seen a couple of others on-line, one for sale. The seller dubbed it as rare. Another post suggested only 500 were so etched. Would love to have an accurate history. Thanks

From what I read online about the knife it was the prize in a Remington Arms sales promotion. If you bought a Remington firearm you got an entry into the “sweepstakes”. The prize was that knife. You’ve probably seen the same info. ::shrug::

Be advised that “rare” does not necessarily equal “valuable”. Demand is the other part of that equation.

Thanks for sharing what you know about them, I dropped $35 on it, so I don't think I over paid. I have another one without the Sweepstake etching, paid $35 for that as well.
