Barlow knives

I've got a Wenoka Barlow, and I've seen other "Barlow" knives for sale. Is Barlow a style of knife or was there an original maker called barlow who made this type? Thanks for looking,

Well, thats cleared that up? I live 10 miles south of Sheffield, and half way between us there is a village called.......Barlow! I was hoping it had been designed by a guy who came from there, that would have been a great story to tell people.

Thanks for the link Bill, I've bookmarked it for future reference. Its like so much of knife history, the more you find out the less you know, and thats what makes it so addictive!

Dont we all wish we still had our first Barlow knife, I lost count of how many I lost at school to that principal.

We all carried and compared knives to elementy school when I lived in Kelseyville, CA. It's a small town on the south end of Clear Lake and school started once the pear harvest was complete. In Lake County we were famous for the Bartlett Pear and EVERYBODY worked and we all needed to carry knives cause we used them from a young age. I remember carrying a stockman most of the time, though now 40 years later I favor a good Barlow and I favor the Bulldog Barlows made in 1986 the most.

Strange, when we upped and moved to the city that knives were banned from school, I usually carried one anyway. Using a knife against another person was just unthinkable. Well until I was stabbed by an unknown assailant in the crowded hallway.

Anyhow, I now have 4 barlow designs on the boards and I have ordered some prints from Don Robinson http://home.earthlink.net/~donwrobinson and I have some other designs to play with, a Barlow linerlock, kinda neat. A simple Barlow gone high tech.

I also ordered a blue print for a 2 bladed Trapper and a toothpick as well as Don's book "My Way". Should be fun and I'd like to make Dons's barlow as well as my designs - 3-7/8 inch Barlows.

I sent my money and form on Wednesday. Whether it gets there in time or not is another thing. That gives them a month almost to get it back.

I hope to bring a Barlow or 2, may be a daunting task with all that I got going on but not impossible - I hope.

I just order a 1/4 x 1-1/2 x 18" bar of A2 for some tooling jigs. You know, I spend more time making tools so that down the road things go faster and far more accurate and repeatable. Ya know, I'll use about 4 inches of the 1/4 inch A2, which can be used to make dies for working stainless steel. I bet that would make a WICKED & Scary Blade or a big D Guard Bowie. That would make a blade that AFTER grinding would weigh nearly 1 LB. Naw probably get arrested for carrying a sword.
