Prentiss Knife Co. New York, N.Y.

Recently got this in last couple weeks, I do not see much information and some confusing things about this stamp. I’ve not seen many examples, I’ve seen on here in another thread that there is information saying that there is a Valley Forge connection supposedly having the VF in circle stamp on back by Boker and there is also in what I have seen a Valley Forge on one tang and the other tang Prentiss Knife Co. New York, N.Y. overstamped on the grinded down tang. I am most certain confused and don’t see many examples. I like to see more of the knives that are out of this maker. This one of mine doesn’t have original scales but the stamps appear legit and nothing of no tangs grind down and no VF in circle on back of tang. Anyone tell me more than I don’t know. I’ve seen 3 different dates one being 1910, 1910-30, other being 1916-30. I suspect this is the 1910 stamp being the original blades/ frame link attached to part of another thread

I can only tell you what I see in Goins. Prentiss Knife Co. New York 1910-1930 and Prentiss Knife Co. New York with the VF stamped on the back of one tang, 1916-1930. So I assume that your is the first Prentiss stamp. Nice knife and I really like what looks like a ant or bug carved into the mark side scale.

Thank you much herb, I just know when searching not many out there to be seen. There is a Prentiss Tool & Co. that was around same time and they could had been linked. I wish this was a company I could find the average information on. My thoughts that possibly part of the missing link is that Valley Forge had a hand in it based on what I seen or contracted the knives or however that worked company possibly and after 1916 came along Boker bought Valley Forge and used the Prentiss stamp on some of the Valley Forge grinding down the one tang and over stamping with Prentiss stamp if that make sense, and what I think time frame wise was maybe actually was 1910-16 six years before Boker. I just know it’s interesting however the case. Also I believe it may be an ant as was my thoughts, was done by whoever done the scales.

Update to my last reply, I just seen I had my information wrong on the dates Boker bought out Valley in 1902 and adopted the VF in circle in 1916. So I am unsure of the connection as I am sure there is one based off the other thread I posted in what was mentioned still confused unfortunately. I love a Mystery tho and tells you if you have a Mystery it must be quite rare as I do see it’s posted on couple of the knives I’ve seen sold.
