Blade Rubbing Marks

I have this 5 blade Sowbelly and it's previous owner has apparently opened one of the blades causing marking on the other. These blades do not touch and I have learned to open the inner blade first to avoid contact. Question is, To polish or not to polish? Will polishing diminish value in the long run?

Depends on the amount if polishing required to remove it. Personally I would not be concerned about it. Since you’ve asked the question , perhaps you are.

Pretty rare to find a modern 5-blade knife without blade rub in my experience. If it has blade rub marks now, even if you remove them the blades still are in the same position (prone to blade rub) so the value is unchanged. It does not affect the usability of the knife but some consider it a flaw. Some people obsess over blade rub, some just accept it as what it is. JMO

Blade rub in multi-blade Case Knives is not uncommon. I bought a Stockman, asked to exchange for another, and the seller said he’d be glad to take it back, but all of the Stockmans he had had blade rub. On the positive side, I’ve never seen it look really bad - just less than perfect.

I have 10 5 blade sowbellies, different names but all Queen made and of course the one with abalone handles has a wee bit of blade rub. I display them open so they arent gonna get worse and I just live with it The worse 1 I had was a Case stockman, its gone.
