ADDITIONAL INFO: This is a restored vintage Western Outers pattern knife. The last mention of this in the catalog pages of Harvey Platt’s book, “The Knife Makers Who Went West” is in the 1941 catalog reprint. One would think it would be stamped Western States Cutlery instead of Western. I imagine there were some made after World War II but those pages were excluded from the catalog reprints in Harvey Platt’s book. The dimensions for the 1941 Outers knife in the Western catalog are 7-1/2” for the overall length and the blade length is 4”, everything matches up otherwise. The knife originally had a celluloid handle that was beginning to off gas so it was upgraded with Sambar stag. The very nice custom leather sheath came with the knife when purchased which is a great upgrade from the original Western sheaths of that era.
