I have one of these Case XX military machetes that I recently picked up and I was doing a little research on the 'Ol "Flea-Bay". I did not know that Case made a version with a "half serrated edge" it looks like you learn something everyday...

Lookslike the business edge was used to chop wire, heavy wire then rat tail filed?? kinda cool at some time in its life.

I imagine if the blade was snapped off it could still be very clean.

Apparently to some people very clean means they wiped it off before posting it!!

Looks like some doofus used it as a prying tool and didn't learn the first time a piece of the blade snapped off.

That's a good point... you would think after the first huge chip flew off that the user might have stopped doing whatever he was doing...

R.R., I was camping years ago, and another camper asked to borrow my Swiss Army knife, then he promptly used the knife blade tip to pry something and broke the tip right off No excuse for that ... that knife had a screwdriver blade on it (even if a screwdriver is NOT a pry-bar it might have held up better )

The machetes with guards usually currently go for $125 to $200, DOC. Without guards, $100 to $150, DOC. The guards alone will go for $50 to $100, DOC and how many folks are bidding for a guard "right now".

The "Navy" part comes from the M592 survival kit bag being stenciled "USN" 99.9% of the time when the bags are found.

The USAAF planes in the Pacific used the same kits. I have never seen one with a "US" only stamp, but they may exist.

The M592 kit has fishing equipment - hooks, lines, gloves, net as the Navy primarily flew over water. I have no clue what, if any, survival/bailout kits the Army pilots had in Europe where the fishing gear would have been unnecessary weight.
