Saying goodbye to Mama
My Mother, Clara Vaughn passed away at her home yesterday.
She was 95 and suffered from dementia and her last few years were pretty rough.
Since my Father died in 2004 I have been her constant companion and when she was diagnosed with dementia I've been her caregiver. My oldest brother and sister came Monday to see her one last time and while we were talking about the old days Mama must have heard us because she raised up and smiled and then laid back down. I told them that Mama was going to be fine because she knew the family was together one last time. Yesterday morning while checking on her I noticed her breathing was very shallow so I got a chair to sit next to her an hold her hand. I told her that l loved her and that Pop was waiting for her. She opened her eyes one last time smiled squeezed my hand and took her final breath. I've never asked for any prayers here but I surely would appreciate any prayers for the family. Here's a photo of Mama and Pop taken before going to church. They were something else and I miss them so much but I know I'll be seeing the again.

Re: Saying goodbye to Mama
Tim, I will be praying for you and your family. What a lovely testimony to your mama. I don’t think there is any greater love you can show a loved one than to take care of them in their old age and in their infirmity. People often wonder why they are still around when they get to needing care and they feel like a burden on others, but from my many experiences I have seen that it isn’t about them it’s about us who take care of them. You know how difficult it has been and have giving the last measure of compassion for her that she needed. What a blessing it is for her and you.
God bless.
God bless.

Re: Saying goodbye to Mama
What a beautiful story and testimony of your Mother's life!
She trusted her Lord and she loved her Lord..... and she loved her family. Her life was a living testimony of God's love.
Her gentleness and compassion were a reflection of God's compassion.
Now that she is in heaven with her Savior, all her family will reflect on her life and receive comfort knowing she was a child of God.
I pray that others in your family will feel a need to receive the assurance of being a true child of God. The Lord is our Savior and welcomes us into His kingdom with open arms. Holy Father, thank you so much for the blessed assurance of being your child. The happiness of entering your heavenly kingdom to live forever in perfect peace.
Thank you Jesus for your great love that passes all understanding!
Please bless this family and heal all hurt that may come from this time of earthly passing.
Oh death, where is your sting? Oh grave, where is your victory?

Re: Saying goodbye to Mama
Tim I'm sorry for your loss, but it has been stated she is in a better place with her Lord. It was a blessing to me to read your words about your final moments with your mother. I admire the fact that you took on the responsibility of caregiver out of love for her.
Today you and your family are in my prayers that our Heavenly Father will give you all perfect peace and comfort. God Bless.

Re: Saying goodbye to Mama
So sorry for your loss. It always hurts to lose a loved one. Seems like a very small blessing, but she is not suffering any longer.
When my dad passed, I could tell it was painful for my mom, but it was also a small relief, as she had been his sole caregiver, and a weight had been lifted off of her. Doesn't fill the loneliness, that's for sure, but one less burden to bear.
I will pray for you and your family.

Surrounded by her family, your mom made a beautiful transition from this valley of tears into the loving presence of her Lord and Savior. Tim, your attentiveness to your mom was exemplary. When next you see her, glory what a day that will be. Prayers offered.

Sorry to hear of your loss, but the family got to see her and say their thoughts and words, and you were with her when her time came. Sad, but her time had come. Take care and think of all the good memories and times as a family.

Re: Saying goodbye to Mama
Sorry for your loss Tim. You were there for her at a time when she needed your support. I lost my mother 19 years ago. I will always cherish the time near the end that my sisters and I spent caring for her. On several occasions when we thought she was sleeping and were talking amongst ourselves, to our surprise she opened her eyes and commented humorously on what we had been saying. You and your family will fondly remember that time with your mother also.
My prayers for both your mom and your family during this difficult time. May God comfort and strengthen you all.

Re: Saying goodbye to Mama
Thanks to you all for this.
My heart is sad but when I think how Mama is now she no longer needs a hearing aid or glasses she can stand up straight and her mind is clear I get great comfort. Time will help heal the pain but I'll keep that last day with her and the other kids close to my heart. Thanks again.

Praying that our Lord will continue to give you comfort and peace in your grief. Being there for her, not just in her final moments, but in these final years, is one of the best things that you can do for someone you love. No doubt now she can look back with a clear mind and be thankful that she got to spend that time with you.

Re: Saying goodbye to Mama
Thank you for sharing the special home going of your dear mother with the Upper Room Forum.
God bless you and your siblings as you go through this special time of your lives.
Beavertail, glad you were able to provide for her, that is something way too many folks fail to do and miss a special blessing. Hard work but you don't have to hang your head, you did what you could.

Re: Saying goodbye to Mama
I really want to thank everyone here for the prayers and kind words.
You have no idea how it has lifted my heart.
I showed my Brother and Sister your prayers and support and my Brother said, "I thought this was a forum for knives" I said it was but it's also a place for fellowship support and love.
Mama's funeral is today at 3:30 and the sun is shining bright.
Once again thanks.

So very true. Having an interest in knives is great but the human interest stories and talk here is even more important, especially
in these past crazy digital years.
Again sorry to hear of your mother's passing Tim.

Re: Saying goodbye to Mama
Tim,
My heart goes out to you and your family, having recently gone through the same experience of losing my mother. It is hard to let go but it's also comforting to know that she's no longer suffering and she is waiting for us when we get there.
You right about AAPK a place of fellowship, support and love. We came here originally for pocket knives, we stayed because we found much more!
God bless you Tim and your family. I will be praying for you all that God would give you peace, comfort and an assurance that you will see your mom again.
