I put some Kirinite on an ailing Camillus 74

I got a box of "parts" a while back. In this box was several Camillus knives. The ones that had celluloid for covers were REAL OBVIOUS!

Here is one I figured needing a rescue.
It is a Camillus 74.... (or so it seems).... more on that later.
The gassing off of the cell had pitted the blades AND the brass liners... :shock:
Here is what it looked like when I got it....

Herb sent me a couple of pieces of that Kirinite stuff. I figured it would make a nice new set of covers for this old guy.
Here is how it turned out.....

Real mother of pearl knife for reference....

NOW.... I have been looking through the Camillus catalogs and I can't find a number 74.. (????)
The closed length of this guy is 3 3/8"....
I can find a similar knife but it isn't marked as a #74.... go figure.

Nice Mike, I remember when you were just getting started on knife repair. What a long way you have come. That Camillus looks fantastic, I like that you buffed the blades. Nothing more irritating to look at on a blade than pitting from outgassing.

Wow that looks great! That is the most realistic faux MOP that I have seen. You really gave that old soldier a new lease on life!

Yeah, I know, it's 2 numbers away from the #72 but I sure was hoping you could lend some insight about a #74.

Beautiful work Mike! ::tu:: I worked with Kirinite on one occasion, and I found it very easy to work with. Almost looks like genuine MOP! 8)
