Help with pattern?
Help with pattern?
I picked up a rough black KA-BAR jack in Arkansas and need any info on it. 3 -1/4 -3-3/8" clip main stamped KA-BAR , secondary pen stamped Union Cutlery, Olean NY. In rough black. Any help greatly appreciated.
Re: Help with pattern?
Not sure what the official pattern number from KA-Bar would be but I would call this a sowbelly jack knife. Handles aren't what I would call rough black but rather jigged black composition handles. Rough black will normally have a more erratic texture.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Re: Help with pattern?
If it has the Union Cut Co stamp, than it is pre-1945 ish. That stamp mark stoped after the mid-40s. The scales are most likely bone. As for pattern, not sure, kinda like a sow belly or a serpentine jack.
You have to be trusted by the people that lie to you. So that when they turn their backs on you, You'll get the chance to put the knife in….

Do a hot needle test on the handles. Won't hurt that knife. I'm curious. J.O'.
