How do I open this Boker knife?

I have only been collecting knives for a few months, but I'm having a problem with my latest acquisition.

The box says BOKER PLUS SMALL DESERT STORM BLK SER USA and made in Taiwan.

I was under the impression that this was an automatic opening knife, but when I press the button nothing happens. Is there a safety somewhere? It's brand new out of the box, but could it be a lemon?

I don't think any of the Bokers are autos from the factory. The button just releases the blade and you still have to manually open it. The autos you see are converted by second parties such as bladehq.com as well as others. Was the one you purchased advertised as an auto?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong as I'm by no means a Boker expert.

I am curious if the knife can be opened and closed manually, without even touching the button. Reason I ask is because I have seen a number of knives with a button that looks like the firing button on an automatic but is actually a button that releases a locking mechanism which locks the blade in either the open or closed position (sometimes both).

So, can the blade be both opened and closed without pressing the button for either operation to work?

This Queen jack is something someone might mistake for a switch.
Of course it has the nail nick, but it locks open and the button must be pushed to close the blade.
I've never seen another like it. 3 3/4".

He got one without a spring, they call those button locks. They are milled out for a spring but I don't know how hard it would be to find one. Grindworx and Blade Head Quarters sell the autos. Might email them and see if they have any springs, not hard to install a spring if the blade has the hole in it for the spring.

I took a pictures of it. You have to press the button to open, but it takes a good bit of pulling to get the blade out. I love the way it looks, but it's not what I was expecting. Thanks for all the help.

Blade HQ mentions that knife as being the Desert Storm in their description but I believe it's actually the Thunderstorm, Like Samb mentioned above they're auto-ready but off the shelf from Boker they're manual open.

If it is hard to open manually also, the screw at the blade pivot may be over tightened causing it to drag/bind. It looks like a Allen head(back side is likely the same) try to loosen it ever so slightly.

I think those are Torx screws.

Hard to say, middle pic didn’t look like it had the torx points, either way I recommend loosening them.
