Here is a good quality small knife from a little known German manufacturer, Balke & Schaaf, Solingen. Any information on the manufacturer welcome.

The scales appear to be faux mother of pearl, but excellent imitation.

Overall length closed 2.53inches (6.42cm.

Nice knife. The covers appear to me to be real mother of pearl, not fake.

Balke & Schaaf was founded in 1897 by Ernst Balke and August Schaaf. It was owned 1914 - 1920 by Ernst Balke. Owned in 1939 by Frau Franziska Balke, who sold it to Josef Blum (listed as the owner in 1942). The company registered a variety of brand names: APOLLO (1923), ATLANTIC (1918), CONCORDIA (1918), CORDIAL (1919), FJORD (1918), JERMAK (1902), KHEDIV (1904), KONTINENTAL (1918), LIBERAL (1918), MEIN FREUND, NADESCHDA (1913), ONEGIN (1913), PACIFIC (1919), POLARLYS (1917), TRISTAN (1923). TRISTAN included "Atlantic-Werk" in the title.
The company made pocket and hunting knives, scissors, straight razors, cutlery, manicure articles and hair clippers. It is believed that the company ceased trading following WWII.
