Uncle Henry 885 UH question

Post by woodwalker »

My friend at work brought in a Uncle Henry 885 UH Schrade USA today and showed me a serial number stamped into the well area. The serial number was P7143. My question is: does this help date it? Was this a common practice? He said that his dad found it in 1979 along the side of the road. What are the date ranges on this particular knife? I dont have the knife to post pictures, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks all! :)

If you post this question in the Schrade forum here there likely is someone who would know what year this 885UH was made. Schrade stopped putting serial numbers on the production knives many years ago.

The Uncle Henry knives I have owned that had serial numbers were the ones that had the loss guarantee. If you lost the knife, there was a card that came in the box with the knife and you filled out the card and sent it in. They would then send you a new knife. The serial number would prevent multiple loss claims on the guarantee of the same knife.

Thank you Olde Cutler for that info. I will pass it to the owner. Appreciate you! :)
