Cowboy sheath
A Marbles Cowboy Knife sheath has what looks like a oversized snap on the front. I'm guessing this must be used to somehoe secure the knife in the sheath, but I've never seen it used. Can anyone explane its use?

Re: Cowboy sheath
As it happens I just saw something similar while browsing Ken! The knife shown appeared to be outside the sheath and the hilt guard looked to have a protruding little "stump" just like your "oversized snap" underneath it, hence holding the knife in place. This was not the subject of the post and of course I can't recall where I saw it, it was simply in the background and looked unusual so I looked closer.

I think that the sheath is made to be carried inside the belt. And that stud is supposed to secure the sheath by going through a hole in the belt to keep the sheath from slipping.

Re: Cowboy sheath
I have had one of those knives for years, and could never figure out how that sheath was supposed to work. Thank you asking that question.

I’ve seen those big studs used to secure a leather thong. Its like a snap, but there is no female side, just a hole or slit in the leather. So Dinadan makes perfect sense.

Re: Cowboy sheath
Its called a "Frog" stud...can be used to line up with a hole in a belt...
sheath stuck concealed kind of in your britches and the frog catches your belt
or britches and does not slip down..
Also works with a "Sash" like Wild Bill Hickok used to use to wear...
