Case Customized Trapper

Does anyone think they know who might have customized the pictured Case trapper?

The seller says he doesn't think it was done in the aftermarket, i.e. it came this way from Case. I'm not at all sure how accurate that is. It's clearly not Yellowhorse or Painted Pony, in my estimation.

hi jim,

i have a dealers catalog from blue ridge knives and it has three case knife patterns in there with that exact same handle. the butterbean, doctors knife, and peanut. it doesnt have that particular knife in it, but the handles are exactly the same, so i would say that it wasnt done after market either.....im assuming it was done by case before it left the factory.....they made a line of them. my catalog is a 2003 from blue ridge knives and they are on page 175.

anyway, when i saw the pic, i knew i had seen that handle before and looked it up for you. hope this helps.

your welcome. it doesnt say in the catalog exactly who customized those knives....it just lists them as custom baby butterbean, custom doctors knife, etc. it does say that the knife features carbon steel blades and the handle with channel inlay of turquoise, black onyx, red coral, and exotic hardwood. anyway, glad to be of help.

I have a Case Peanut with this type handle. Mine is defintely not done by the case factory. It is stamped 3220 and has Chrome Vanadium steel which means it was yellow handle at factory production.

Further, in peanut knives like this they would probably put EX220. "EX" being exotic handle. David Yellowhorse did these after market initially I think, and they sold so well that someone else has in fact, begun producing them "after market". But that my belief is all.

I would suspect that your trapper's tang stamp might lend a clue as to the original handle type from the factory. I believe it would have "EX" in the pattern stamp if it were done at Case.

hey, yes, they are listed in my book as patterns 32132cv for the butterbean and 3185cv for the doctors knife and 6220ss for the peanut but all have the same type handles. it doesnt say that case customized them.....i just assumed that since they were listed in the book that they would come straight from case to the dealer and then out into the market. im not 100% sure how it works tho. do the knives go from case to brian yellow horse for customizing and then back to case for inspections and what not or just on the the market place? ive never owned a customized case, but they are very nice looking knives and most are pretty expensive. anyway, great looking knives guys!

If you wouldn't mind another question, can you tell me what price range these are in, if you happen to know? Yellowhorse Cases seem to go for $300+ and Painted Pony are at least $200+.

These, I'm still assuming are neither YH nor PP. Would you say they are in the over $100 price range, or under $100?

Wholesale price from Blue Ridge was between $50. and $60. dollars. Retail from them was $102.95

But with Case knives it just depends on what someone is willing give you for it.

Thanks once again for the info. I was eyeing this knife on ebay at a price of $70. Seems like a pretty good price but I'm going to pass on it.
