Nice stag on that Scagel Sunburst,

I picked up one of those myself. Northwoods sure know how to pick the stag.
Great size knife for everyday carry. The half stop on this model is a nice feature as well.

WOW! great knife Ralph. Jim how do you keep from uh-ah er, well fondling them? AND, what do we lookf for from a knife that has been subjected to such treatment. Dang, I could fon uh sharpen that all night.

Uhhh Hukk, we don't use the word fondling anymore, we like to say caressing, yeah that's it caressing...

And as far as treatment you know us knife collectors frown on knives that have been cleaned, so it's what you see

is what you get..

And me, well I'm just an old gray ghost, that's all in the world I am. If I'm touched I'm touched and that's all there is too it. Sorry, these knives are makin me a little crazy now. I'm quotin lines from old movies.

It's a classic Gary, Grapes Of Wrath with Henry Fonda. When they find Muley in this old house, he's hidng out from the law and sayin "I'm ain't leavin, this here's my land." And they think he's gone crazy. I love that old movie.

Sunburst I see you have all the northwoods cotton samplers ,the scagel, and a case bose ,which do you think is the nicer or better knife I'm new to this and would like to spend my little bit of money right.

A great question Don...

Hands down in my opinion the Case/Bose Collaboration knives are the best factory knife on the market...But they are two or three times the cost of the Northwoods knives and harder to come by. Only one Case/Bose collaboration model is released every year, usually in several choices of handle material. The latest pearl handle Case/Bose swing guard runs around $600-700 all by itself..

The Northwoods knives are made by Queen Cutlery for Northwoods with the same workmanship they put into the Schatt & Morgan line of knives which is their premier cutlery. Northwoods uses their own handle material such as stag, tortoise and bone. Nobody in the industry at this date and time comes even close to what is being made available by Northwoods. I personally think you would have to go back to the 60's & 70's stag that Case used to even come close..

Northwoods knives are affordable to collect or use and come in carbon steel which is attractive if you plan on sharpening the knife. They also come in many models of choice so your not locked into one model. They are made in low numbers so they are not quite as hard to find as the Case/Bose knives but yet low enough where they should become a nice collectable down the road..

Scagel which is actually a Northwoods knife is on par with other Northwoods knives but made in ultra low numbers once or twice per year. It is more a marketing/novelty idea to own a true replica of an authentic William Scagel knife. Dave Shirley the owner of Northwoods and a Scagel enthusiast owns the rights to the Scagel name. He proudly admits there is nothing creative about his Scagel reproductions. They are copies of original knives he has owned. They have the same feel and balance and dimensions as the originals. They are more accessible to those of us who would like to experience the use of a Scagel without the prohibitive expense of an original. These knives should be quite collectable as well but have not moved as fast as some of us have hoped.

Well there you have it...At least to my way of thinking...

Northwoods knives are fun, affordable, great quality and will be collectable in the future. They have become my favorite knife to own lately..Case/Bose knives are impeccable quality, instant collectables but come at a large price. Scagel is somewhere in between both of these knives but mainly because it has the Scagel name attached to it being a true replica of America's most famous knife maker...

My wife and were in Las Vegas this past week; I had an association meeting, and it just so happened there was a knife show there as well. I ran into a fellow that had an original Scagel miniature!!!!!
Holy crap.....................I about pissed myself. I got a picture of the knife on my phone camera, but I can't figure out how to get it out of there. I also got to meet Bill Ruple, so it was a very productive week!!!!
