Some cutlery history on youtube

Post by Mumbleypeg »

Stumbled onto these YouTube videos by accident. Someone may have posted them previously but if so i didn’t find it.

Enjoy!

Thanks for posting those! I have been there a couple of times, so much knife history there. Sadly the old Catt factory has been burned to the ground and the walls collapsed since that video was made, and WR's house has been slated for demolition, don''t know if it has been reprieved or torn down yet. The Springville Case Bros factory is still standing and in use, nice restaurant in part of it, great place for knife guys to dine. Brad Lockwood has finally got the state to erect a couple historical markers in Little Valley and is hoping to get more installed. The narrator is a little off, there were never hundreds of actual companies there, and they surely weren't as large a producer of knives than Sheffield. I think Walden, NY had more knives being made in Walden than were ever made in Little Valley, but Little Valley was definitely a top location for knife manufacturing. Dang, I love old knife history!!

Knife (and it's family history) is surely complicated. Thanks for the post.
