Honk Falls Coke Bottle - What's it Worth

Post by easyopener »

Am considering selling my Honk Falls coke bottle, aka swell center hunting knife and wanted to get some input on current pricing. Am selling to a friend and want to be fair to him and myself. Knife is in NKCA Excellent condition. Blade is full length and 98% width with half stop, monsterous snap and no wobble. Bone handles are very nice, but there is a broken out piece in the front handle near the cap bolster. Tang stamp is a little faint, but readable. I chose to clean this knife, so blade has a mirror finish. Bolsters have a few shallow dings and scratches. I paid $600 for the knife 20 years ago, but can't find any comparable knives to determine current value.

I’m just gonna take a WAG and estimate it’s worth at around $800.00. Too bad for that chip in the bone. Otherwise it’s worth to me would be over a thousand. Now if I ever spent that much on a knife I’d be in big trouble with my Supervisor [Mrs]. Your friend will be lucky to have it. Steve B. ::mdm::

Keep your edge sharp, otherwise you just can't cut it.

Looking for Carrier Cutlery and early Robeson with Elmira tang stamps.

I don't think $800 is right at all, seems way too high considering the broken cover. Putting a mirror finish on a blade that never had a mirror finish to begin with also lessens the value. I would think half that amount would be closer to a value, but I'm no Honk Falls expert so I defer to those folks. You need Jay in here, he's the Honk Falls expert.

I think Eric is closer to value.I think $400 is tops with the issues mentioned by Eric.

For what it's worth I use the old BRL standby:"A knife's value is what the buyer is willing to spend and what the seller is willing to let it go for".Probably one of the reasons I don't like to "guesstimate" prices.
