Sermon Help
Thought I'd pick you guys' brains.
2020 was certainly a bummer of a year. I'm wanting to end on a light-hearted note by focusing on the "funny" side of scriptures.
I'll be taking a look at laughter in the Bible, and some words that focus on the lighter side - joy, delight, rejoice, enjoy.
I also want to point out a few stories/passages that I find humorous:
Exodus 14 - the Red Sea crossing, specifically v15 "Why are you crying out to Me? Get yer butts in gear and get a move on!!" (my paraphrase, of course)
Gen 3 - in the garden, v9 "Where are you?" Like God didn't know! I also find the blame shifting of Adam and Eve funny, only because it is all too common today. Some things just never change.
I have a few more, but wanted to know what you have found that has made you chuckle during your time in the Word.
Thanks!

Re: Sermon Help
Steve,
Here are a few that I think are funny...
II Kings 19:35. Waking Up Dead.
Proverbs 23:1. Strange Utensils.
Proverbs 20:17. That’s a Mouth Full!
Judges 3:16-22. When Lefty Let Fatty Have It.
Hope your year ends well, and the New Year brings greater blessings.

Mark 5:40-42. “Why don’t you feed her? I know she’s hungry.”
(What twelve year old isn’t!?)
Genesis 17 and 18. God tells childless 99 year old Abraham and 90 year old Sarah they will have a child!
Sarah says she didn’t laugh, and God says “That’s not true Sarah. You did laugh.”
Exodus 32:7-11. Whose people are they?
(They’re your people. No they’re your people.). Sorta like me and my wife when our boys were misbehaving.

Thanks Ken.
I'm no comedian, but as we are created in the image of God, if He can laugh, we can all laugh!
Merry Christmas to you and yours!!

Re: Sermon Help
I find the entire story of Balaam talking to his donkey to be very amusing! First of all the God chose a donkey talk to him, that is funny in itself. He didn't choose a dog, or a Noble Beast like a lion, he chose his jackass, a common Beast of Burden to talk to Balaam. It would be like having your pickup talk to you today!
Now the first thing that most rational people would have done when their jackass starts talking to him as jump down and run away.
Not Balaam! Balaam gets down and starts talking to his donkey. And the donkey talks back and they have a conversation. And on top of that Balaam starts arguing with his donkey, and in the end loses the argument with his donkey.
I find the whole story absolutely hilarious and I believe that it shows that God himself has and Incredibly well-developed sense of humor, a Divine sense of humor if you must!
If the story of Balaam isn't enough to convince you that God has a sense of humor then look around you and look in the mirror. God must have a sense of humor because he created us!
Blessings on your sermon brother. Maybe you can get someone to video it and upload it to YouTube so we can all watch?

Re: Sermon Help
These may not be appropriate for sermon inclusion due to the obvious misinterpretation of Scripture, but they are humorous and maybe usable elsewhere.
Baseball in the Bible--Gen. 1:1 In the BIG inning
Shortest man---Kneehighmiah
Man with no parents---Joshua was the son of Nun
Motorcycle---David's TRIUMPH was heard throughout the land
Automobile---They were in one ACCORD
I know there are more, but my forgetter seems to be outpacing my rememberer.

After killing Abel, Cain didn't want to be a vagrant on the run, so God sent him to settle in Nod.
Nod means "wondering" !
