Preserving Blade Etch & Storage Tips

Post by Another Knife Collector »

I was wondering if anyone has heard of a way of preserving a blade etch, or if an etch will even fade at all without being used. Any other storage tips? I'm concerned about keeping my Schrade Cut. Co. in its never sharpened, mint-for-its-age condition. Thanks for your help. :)

already ot a little pepper so i suggest a light coat of mineral oil or whatever oil you use, no w-d 40. or ren. wax is a good alternative to oil. excellent way to preserve. no abrasive polish on etch. nice old knife.

I see you are new here so Welcome and just to help you some more.

This is what jonet143 means by ren wax.

I have many old Schrades with etching on the blades and I use this on the entire knife not just the blades.

I also use a drop of TUF-GLIDE oil on the joints.

Here's the Tuf-Glide Ken mentioned. It's mineral oil I believe, great stuff!

I'm not trying to be a contrarian here...but I don't believe TUF-GLIDE is mineral oil, as it's not designed to be ingestible/digestible.

From the Sentry Solutions website and FAQs...............

None of Sentry Solutions products are FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved. TUF-CLOTH's protection bonds to metal surfaces. This bonding reduces the possibility of transferring material to food items that might be cut. If you plan to cut food with a TUF-CLOTH treated blade, we suggest that you wash the blade first.

.........................................

Just as information here folks.

They do make very good products, IMO.

Oops, I stand corrected.........................I believe it's mineral spirits! Got my minerals mixed up..............

Thanks for watching out for me Bill!!

I agree with you on the Tuf-Cloth, I don't care for it. It leaves a funky film on the steel, but I think it's designed to.

The Tuf-Glide is great for the pivot points, just don't over do it!
